Razor sharp: Wayne Rooney shows he’s a cut above the rest

Wayne Rooney sported a new look as he arrived for England training today.

The striker, who is banned for Friday’s Group D clash with Sweden, had shaved the sides and back of his head following his hair transplant a year ago.

Martin Kelly was the only absentee from today’s session as he continues to suffer with a virus. All remaining 22 players took to the pitch in heavy rain at the Hutnik Stadium in Krakow for what was their only intense session before Friday’s clash against Sweden.

Yesterday’s recovery session and tomorrow’s light training in front of the media in Kiev are Roy Hodgson’s only other opportunities to work with his players as they look to build on Monday’s 1-1 draw against France.

Jermain Defoe left the stadium with a slight ankle problem that required an ice pack but he moved without restriction today. Joleon Lescott was the first player to take to the field, followed by Rooney.

Only the first 15 minutes were open to the media but Ashley Cole left the session early as a precaution. The Chelsea defender has a long-standing ankle problem and received a massage instead of taking a full part in training.
