Queens Park Rangers chairman Tony Fernandes expects goalkeeper Julio Cesar to leave the club in the current transfer window.

Cesar was recently warned by Brazil manager Luiz Felipe Scolari to seal a move away from Loftus Road or risk losing his place as the nation’s first-choice stopper at his home World Cup.

The 34-year-old – who has remained behind Robert Green in the Championship outfit’s pecking order – has made just one appearance under Harry Redknapp this term.

And Fernandes has revealed he believes Cesar will head for the exit door in search of playing time before the window closes at the end of January

"It's a waste for someone with such immense talent not playing and I think he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, so I'm sure someone will pick him up and let's see how that goes,” the QPR chief told Sky Sports News, amid speculation the Brazilian is set to return to Italy.

"We've gone with Rob (Green) because at the beginning of the season we thought Julio wouldn't be there.

"Rob has come in and done a fantastic job and I think he could be pushing for an England place - he's played really well.

"Just look at the last game (a 2-1 home victory over Huddersfield Town on Saturday). He kept us in the game until we came back and won. He's been superb."
