Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar was carried off on a stretcher with an ankle injury during their dramatic Ligue 1 clash with Lille on Sunday.

Neymar left the field in tears and PSG face an anxious wait to discover the severity of the injury.

PSG face Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on March 8 and there are fears the Brazilian could be ruled out of the game in Germany.

The French champions are 1-0 down from the first leg and losing Neymar would be a major blow to their hopes of turning the tie around.

He landed awkwardly on his ankle following a coming together with Lille player Benjamin Andre in the second half and received lengthy treatment at the Parc des Princes.

Neymar damaged the same ankle at the World Cup in Qatar.

PSG head coach Christophe Galtier said: “Neymar? It’s an ankle sprain. The gravity? We don’t know yet he’s taking exams right now.”

Neymar had earlier scored against Lille, in a match PSG went 2-0 ahead and then 3-2 behind.

Kylian Mbappe made it 3-3 with his second goal in 87th minute before Lionel Messi scored a 95th-minute winner.

It was reported this week that Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly met PSG president Nasser al Khelaifi to discuss a potential transfer of Neymar, who could leave Paris in the summer.
