Andre Villas-Boas named an unchanged side as Tottenham looked to gain the bragging rights in north London by beating Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Lewis Holtby and Jermain Defoe had to settle for a place on the bench despite their efforts against Dinamo Tbilisi in midweek while new £26million signing Erik Lamela was also among the substitutes.

Arsenal made three changes from the team that beat Fenerbahce, with Laurent Koscielny, Kieran Gibbs and Tomas Rosicky coming in for Bacary Sagna, Nacho Monreal and Lukas Podolski.

Arsenal: Szczesny, Jenkinson, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs, Wilshere, Ramsey, Walcott, Rosicky, Cazorla, Giroud. Subs: Sagna, Monreal, Flamini, Fabianski, Sanogo, Gnabry, Zelalem.

Spurs: Lloris, Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Rose, Capoue, Paulinho, Townsend, Dembele, Chadli, Soldado. Subs: Lamela, Holtby, Naughton, Defoe, Sigurdsson, Friedel, Sandro.
