The three pitch invasions which led to the temporary suspension of Tottenham's match against Partizan Belgrade on Thursday night were part of an internet prank involving 'comedians' vying to see who could stay on the pitch the longest.

The Trollstation channel released a YouTube video late last night under the title 'Pitch Invasion Challenge'.

Spurs are now facing the prospect of UEFA sanctions after the game was suspended four minutes before half-time following the intrusions in the 22nd, 26th and 41st minutes of the game

All three men wore t-shirts bearing the name of headphone manufacturer BassBuds, who produce licensed Spurs merchandise.

The company released a statement condemning the disruption, but Tottenham have removed all mentions of the brand from club channels and related stock from their shops while they investigate whether the company was involved.

An official statement from Spurs apologised for the "totally unacceptable behaviour" and the trio now face bans from White Hart Lane.
