Petr Cech will provide Arsenal with the ‘world-class’ goalkeeper that fans have been calling out for, says former Chelsea and Manchester City midfielder Frank Lampard.

Cech completed his move across the capital at the end June, ending an 11-year spell with Chelsea, for a fee believed to be £10 million.

Signing a four-year contract worth £100,000-a-week, his arrival has seen some back the Gunners as title favourites ahead of the new season.

But while he still favours his former clubs in the title race, Lampard - who has left the Premier League for the MLS after two decades in English football - insists that Arsene Wenger’s latest signing can make the difference for the Gunners ahead of the new season.

The 37-year-old played alongside Cech for all but the final season of the Czech international’s reign at Stamford Bridge, and Lampard believes his former team-mate will help turn Arsenal into title challengers.

“Arsenal signing Petr Cech is a big deal. A lot of mates who are Arsenal fans have bemoaned their ‘keeper situation for ages,” Lampard told the Sun.

“Cech is a world-class ‘keeper and person and can help push Arsenal into the running next season.

“Arsenal weren’t a million miles away over the last few seasons. They are always challenging before falling just short but Cech going there, as John Terry said recently, will save them points.”

“Manchester City and Chelsea will be challenging for the title once again. They remain favourites but Petr will make a difference.”
