The west Londoners' title defence began in disastrous fashion but they have rediscovered their confidence under Guus Hiddink in recent weeks.
Chelsea are unbeaten in 11 top-flight games since the Dutchman took charge and recorded back-to-back victories for the first time this season at the weekend.
Norwich, meanwhile, are teetering just above the relegation zone and have picked up just one point from their last seven games.
However, Nevin is adamant the Canaries' poor form does not mean Hiddink's men will face a straightforward task in Norfolk this evening.
"Alex Neil’s side have regularly been playing better than their results suggest," he told the club's official website.
"But as Chelsea found out this season, when you are down there you rarely get the breaks.
"In short, this is not going to be a piece of cake handed to us on a pretty plate by Delia Smith’s beloved team.
"With nothing to lose and desperation beginning to seep in to their play, expect a real contest," he insisted.
Norwich have conceded 10 goals in their last three home games while Chelsea's most recent defeat on the road arrived at Leicester in December, which proved to be Jose Mourinho's final game in charge.
Hiddink could opt to make changes to his side tonight, with Alexandre Pato 'ready' to make his Premier League debut and Diego Costa a prime candidate to be rested ahead of next week's Champions League clash with PSG.
