Newcastle's highly-rated chief scout Graham Carr has signed a new eight-year deal with the club.

The 67-year-old has played a key role in the club’s impressive recruitment drive that helped Newcastle to a fifth-placed finish in last season’s Premier League.

Carr helped identify talents including Hatem Ben Arfa, Cheick Tiote, Yohan Cabaye, Papiss Cisse and Sylvain Marveaux.

Newcastle’s managing director Derek Llambias said: “We are delighted that Graham has committed his future to the club.

“He has been instrumental in helping us bring some truly exceptional players to Newcastle and he has deservedly built one of the best reputations in the business.”
