Mykhailo Mudryk: Arsenal fan arrested after laser pen incident during Chelsea clash

Ukraine forward targeted during game at Emirates Stadium

An Arsenal fan has been arrested for shining a laser in Mykhailo Mudryk’s face during Wednesday’s 3-1 win over Chelsea.

Mudryk was targeted on his first appearance at Emirates Stadium since turning down a move to Arsenal to join Chelsea for £88.5million in January.

The Ukraine international was booed as he came on to the pitch as a second-half substitute and a green light was flashing on his face for much of his time on the pitch.

Arsenal have described the incident as “dangerous and totally unacceptable” and have confirmed an arrest was made after the game.

An Arsenal statement said: “An arrest has been made following the use of a laser during last night’s match. This behaviour is dangerous and totally unacceptable, and we will fully support the police with their enquiries.

“We will obviously take the strongest possible action.”

Mudryk had looked set to join Arsenal before Chelsea hijacked their deal.

The 22-year-old has struggled since joining Chelsea and had a relatively quiet 19 minutes after coming on for Enzo Fernandez as the Blues slumped to a sixth successive defeat under interim manager Frank Lampard.

The FA are also looking into the incident.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police added: “"A 21-year-old man was arrested at the Emirates Stadium during the Arsenal v Chelsea match on 2 May on suspicion of a public order offence. He has been taken into custody.

"As the result of an anti-ticket touting operation before the Arsenal v Chelsea match, three men were arrested on suspicion of ticket touting and one man arrested on suspicion of breaching his football banning order. They were taken into custody."
