Mauricio Pochettino has warned Tottenham they must learn to be more clinical after today's slender 2-1 victory at Middlesbrough.

Spurs extended their unbeaten record thanks to Heung-min Son's brace but had to withstand a second-half fightback from the hosts following Ben Gibson's header.

The north Londoners should have had the game wrapped up before the closing stages but Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Moussa Sissoko were all guilty of missing chances.

And Pochettino is adamant his players should have put the game to bed after dominating Aitor Karanka's side for so long.

"We fully deserved the result, the most important thing is the victory. Son was fantastic but it was a collective effort.

"The first half was great and we should have scored more than two. We need to learn to be more aggressive and clinical," he insisted.

"In the second half we allowed the opponent to come back.

"It was 2-1 at the end looks a little bit tough but we were much better."

Tottenham's fourth victory of the season was enough to move them up to second place in the table as Everton suffered a shock 1-0 defeat against Bournemouth.

Pochettino will now turn his attention to the Champions League as Spurs face an arduous trip to Russia to face CKSA Moscow on Tuesday night.
