Man Utd squad numbers confirmed for 2019-20 season: Anthony Martial handed No.9 shirt
Manchester United have confirmed their squad numbers for the 2019-20 season, with Anthony Martial taking the No.9 shirt vacated by Romelu Lukaku.
Martial originally wore the No.9 shirt when he joined United from AS Monaco in 2015, but was then switched to No.11 when Zlatan Ibrahimovic joined the Red Devils a year later.
Romelu Lukaku then took on the jersey when Ibrahimovic left in March 2018, but the Belgian has also since departed after joining Inter Milan on transfer deadline day.
That left the shirt vacant, and Martial has taken it on once again - but it is not just an empty gesture from United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has played Martial through the middle as a centre-forward in pre-season, and it looks likely that the France international will be used in that role this season with Marcus Rashford cutting in from the left.
