Jose Mourinho accuses Arsenal of diving and time-wasting in Man Utd draw

Jose Mourinho accused Arsenal of diving and time-wasting in a bid to escape Old Trafford with a point.

Manchester United twice came back to earn a 2-2 draw with Unai Emery’s side in a thrilling clash.

But Mourinho believes they should have come away with all three points - claiming his under fire team are guilty of repeatedly shooting themselves in the foot as their bid to secure Champions League football took another blow.

Referring to David de Gea’s fumble, which gifted Shkodran Mustafi Arsenal’s opener, and Marcos Rojo’s own goal, Mourinho said: “We scored four goals and we drew 2-2. But we score four goals and even in matches like today where we play well, we always shoot ourselves.

“Sometimes we miss chances with an open goal, other times defensive mistakes, but fantastic spirit, good performances.

“I feel that is a moment where, for example, we play against the team that is at the top of their season, in a moment where everything goes well for them. That’s clearly a team on a high against a team with so many problems and the top of these problems, during football matches, we shoot ourselves.”

Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard drew United level either side of half time – and Mourinho inists it was Arsenal who were holding on – describing the visitors as “wanting the draw, diving, getting the game stopped waiting for the game to go to the end.”

United remain eight points adrift of the top four in eighth place and Mourinho has challenged his side to build on a run of four games without defeat in all competitions – even though they’ve picked up just three points from a possible 12.

“We had very good performances where we make mistakes and we are always punished,” he added. “How many times are we the team with the big occasion in the start, but almost always, we don’t score, the opponent goes there and they don’t know how, but they are winning 1-0?

“It always happens and seems related to mistakes that we make, but sometimes we don’t have the feeling we played that really frustrates me. The frustration (today) is the result, but the attitude was fantastic by everybody.”
