Another famous Man Utd comeback? Eric Bailly believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can summon historic spirit against PSG

Eric Bailly claims Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is Manchester United’s greatest hope of keeping their Champions League dream alive.

United’s chances of reaching the last eight are in tatters after a 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint Germain in their round of 16 first leg tie on Tuesday.

And with Paul Pogba suspended from the return fixture next month following his red card, even Solskjaer admitted his side have been left with a mountain to climb.

But Bailly has witnessed the interim manager’s transformation of the team he inherited from Jose Mourinho and refuses to rule out a famous comeback in the French capital.

“He gives us hope,” said the Ivorian. “He is trying to build us back up again.

“We are playing with all our effort.

“We played on our strengths. We played on the counter-attack.

“The first half we were good, we defended well. On a mistake, we conceded the first goal. After that, the team tried to give its best.”

PSG was the start of a pivotal period for United when they also face crunch games against Chelsea in the FA Cup and title-challenging Liverpool.

Bailly added: “Now we’re going to forget about this game. There are more matches to come and think about in the future.”

PSG’s Julian Draxler believes Pogba’s suspension is a major blow to United’s chances of turning the tie around.

“For me Paul is the best player of Manchester United,” he said. “He’s a very important player for the team and even today you could see he is fantastic.

“That is why we are very happy he will not play the second leg.

“I think they started very well so the pressure was not easy for us, but in the second half we were more confident and the pressure of Man United was a little bit less.

“That helped us to improve our game so we found some space on the pitch and we used that very well and that is why we deserved to win.”
