Dimitar Berbatov’s brilliant response to Phil Jones and his Man Utd 5-a-side team selection

Dimitar Berbatov has one failure from his time at Manchester United… trying to keep Phil Jones’ unusual facial expressions under control.

Berbatov, who spent four seasons at Old Trafford between 2009 and 2012, was named in Jones’ ultimate five-aside team alongside David de Gea, Nemanja Vidic, Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney this week.

The United centre-half slotted the former striker in at defence, however.

Berbatov, describing himself as “Baresi and Beckenbauer into one” in his defensive role, explained on Instagram he sometimes played at the back to help anticipate how a defender will react during matches.

“I can get into the head of a defender, get to know how the defender thinks and react in different situations and remember the information and use it in the games. Simple as that,” Berbatov said.

Former Tottenham star Berbatov will be remembered as one of the Premier League’s more stylish operators.

Jones, perhaps not so much, recently admitting his occasionally bizarre in-match facial expressions that have him relentlessly trending on social media are also mocked “every night” by his friends on WhatsApp.

That’s despite Berbatov trying to take him under his wing in training.

On those days playing alongside Jones in defence in training, he added: “I also remember trying to show Phil Jones how to stay cool-faced and show no emotion… but I don’t think that’s working.”
