Lukas Podolski has revealed Joe Hart congratulated him on a "f****** brilliant" goal with his winner against England in his final Germany game.

The 31-year-old called time on a 13-year international career, spanning 130 games, with a 30-yard screamer to give his country a 1-0 win in the international friendly.

England were in control for much of the game, Gareth Southgate opting to experiment with a three-man defence, but the former Arsenal striker's 49th international goal was enough.

Podolski shared a conversation with Hart after the strike and the Galatasary man revealed what was said following full-time.

He told ARD: "He said it was a f***ing brilliant shot – amazing!"

“This is like a great movie,” he said of the game. “We win 1-0 and I score the goal.

“I know I have a left foot that was probably gifted to me by God, or someone up there, and I can always rely on it. I am proud of these last 13 years.

“From the atmosphere in the stadium, you could see the connection I have with people from Cologne.

“There were at least 30,000 people from Cologne in the stadium. It gives you goose bumps. That’s when you know where you home is, and that you’ve done a lot of good, also off the pitch. That makes me very proud.”
