Liverpool fans led the way in protesting the Premier League’s recent decision to hand departing executive chairman Richard Scudamore a £5m farewell bonus.

Each team will contribute £250,000 in recognition of the outgoing executive chairman, who steps down in December after almost 20 years in charge.

But the move has been greeted with anger by some football fans and Liverpool supporters at Watford on Saturday were the first to make their feelings known at a top flight fixture.

Banners in the away end at Vicarage Road pointed out that Scudamore’s ‘golden handshake’ is equivalent in value to 11,662 Premier League season tickets and 56,180 weekly shops for foodbanks.

They read: "11,662 Premier League season tickets. 56,180 weekly shops for foodbanks. Scudamore's £5,000,000. Greed."
