Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Liverpool have yet to find a solution to the persistent muscular injuries that have limited Xherdan Shaqiri's contributions this season.

The Swiss was out for five weeks with a calf tear suffered in September and has endured two subsequent stints on the sidelines due to hamstring problems.

The latest of those lay-offs began when Shaqiri missed out on a place in the squad to face Manchester United last Sunday, and will continue when the Reds face Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup this weekend.

However, Klopp has revealed that the club's medical staff are working hard to ensure their no23 can remain fit for a prolonged period going forward.

“It is not cool, absolutely not cool but maybe there are different reasons," the German said.

"He is a very special player in different departments: his physique is different to all others I ever saw, his muscles are unbelievable. So far it was never big but it was always enough to get him out.

"I can imagine that is frustrating, it is frustrating for him and not good for us. We work on that. We don't want to bring in a situation where it constantly happens but so far we didn't find 100 per cent the solution for it so we have to see."

Shaqiri has made just three starts in all competitions for Liverpool so far this term.

Despite his sporadic involvement, the 28-year-old has been the subject of loan interest from both AS Roma and Sevilla during the January transfer window.

However, Klopp is keen to retain the Switzerland international's services until the end of the campaign, when a fresh decision on his future will be made.
