And they needed someone to step up and rescue a point from the spot against Bournemouth at Griffin Park last night.
With Robbie Simpson having been substituted after 65 minutes, winger Lewis Grabban had no qualms about assuming the responsibility to earn an important point for the home side.
Manager Andy Scott insisted: "I had faith in Lewis.
"He took penalties well in training the day before but I was praying!"
Danny Hollands had put Bournemouth ahead only minutes earlier and Scott said: "When you play poorly and come away with a point you should be grateful. Earlier in the season we were getting nothing. The lads kept going to the end but the game lacked quality."
