Kevin De Bruyne believes he is ready to secure a place in Chelsea’s first team after impressing manager Jose Mourinho during pre-season.

De Bruyne has yet to make his competitive debut for the club having been sent on loan to Genk, from where he joined for £7million in January 2012, as well as out to Werder Bremen last season.

But the Belgium international has played in the majority of Chelsea’s friendlies this summer and is confident he can now make an impact at Stamford Bridge.

He said: “I know that the squad is packed with quality and that competition for places is intense but I also know that I can do it.

“I’m a very confident person. During pre-season training, I was able to show what I could bring to the team — that was important.

“My versatility should play in my favour and the fact that Jose Mourinho has been speaking to me regularly has made things easier.”

Meanwhile, Eden Hazard has revealed he is already enjoying playing for Mourinho and believes this season can be a great success.

When asked what it’s been like working with the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan coach

this summer, the attacking midfielder said: “It was good, sometimes difficult, but good.

“We try to do the best for them, for Chelsea and I hope to win trophies. I am very excited about the start of the season.”
