Kenny Dalglish has got Cardiff taped

On red alert: Kenny Dalglish is wary of another cup final shock

Liverpool have gone to extra lengths to avoid a repeat of one of the greatest shocks in cup final history at Wembley.

Kenny Dalglish was manager when the Reds were beaten there 1-0 by Wimbledon in the 1988 FA Cup Final, crushing hopes of a Double.

He takes Liverpool back to Wembley on Sunday with his side again the favourites as they face Cardiff City in the Carling Cup Final.

This is Liverpool's first appearance at the national stadium since they lost the 1996 FA Cup Final to Manchester United and a chance to win their first trophy in six years and extend their record haul of League Cups to eight.

But Dalglish is taking nothing for granted and said: "Like ourselves, Cardiff are in the final on merit and will give them the respect they deserve. We've seen before how upsets happen in Wembley finals. We have to make sure it doesn't happen to us this time and should not be thinking that the match will be a foregone conclusion."

Dalglish ordered director of football Damien Comolli to do extra analysis on the Championship side.

Comolli said: "We've scouted Cardiff a lot more than we would for a Premier League game. We got a lot more clips and videos of them than we would have done for a normal game. Kenny and the coaching staff don't know Cardiff off the top of their heads as well as they do with the Premier League teams and players, it is likewise for the players."
