Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he is staying out of Mohamed Salah’s contract discussions with Liverpool.
The German manager further explained that he is only concerned about Salah’s form for the club.
Salah’s deal at Anfield expires in the summer of 2023 but the Egyptian is currently understood to be negotiating with the club about a new contract.
“There is nothing really to say about it, especially not from me as I am not involved,” Klopp stressed ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League meeting with Crystal Palace.
“Obviously the only thing I am really interested in is how Mo looks, how sharp he is, how committed he is at the moment and that’s absolutely spot on. Really good.
“There is nothing new to say about [the contract)]”
Salah joined the Premier League’s 100 club against Leeds United last weekend, notching a century of league goals with a tidy finish from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross.
The overwhelming majority of those 100 have been scored for Liverpool, with only four of the 30 Premier League players to have achieved the landmark doing so in fewer games than Salah (162).
Salah will again have a key role to play at Anfield on Saturday with Roberto Firmino still not able to return to the Liverpool side to face Palace.
“He is not ready,” said Klopp of the Brazilian. “[Firmino] won’t even start training with the team until some point next week.
“Then he will be back in training and we will have to see.”
Firmino has been absent since injuring his hamstring against Chelsea before the international break.
