Jose Mourinho today questioned Fifa’s decision to investigate a complaint made by Fiorentina against Chelsea over the Italian club’s failed attempt to re-sign Mohamed Salah on loan.

Fifa confirmed this morning they are looking into both Chelsea and Salah over events that took place this summer, which ended up with the Egypt international joining Roma instead.

Fiorentina first loaned the winger in January, but believed a clause was in place giving them first option to loan him again for the whole of this season.

It is understood such a stipulation was made but on the proviso Salah wanted to make the move, which he decided to reject in favour of Roma.

A Fifa spokesman said today: “We can confirm having received a claim from the Italian club, Fiorentina, against the English club, Chelsea, and the player, Mohamed Salah Ghaly, for breach of contract. The matter is still pending and being investigated.”

Chelsea believe they have done nothing wrong and Mourinho has hit back at Fifa, who have been subject of great controversy for some time, saying: “I'm happy that Fifa has time for other things in the middle of such a great weather around them. I'm happy they have time for other things.”
