Jamie Carragher may have retired from football, but the former Liverpool defender has not forgotten his rivalry with Manchester United after trolling the Red Devils over the collapse of David De Gea's transfer to Real Madrid.

United appeared on the verge of completing a £29million swap deal with Real Madrid for goalkeeper Keylor Navas in exchange for De Gea on Monday before the transfer sensationally fell through at the last minute.

It is believed the paperwork for the deal was not submitted before the transfer window in Spain closed at midnight on Monday before Real then blamed United for the incident in a 10-point statement released a day later.

Louis van Gaal is now facing the prospect of keeping a player who the Dutchman has not played so far this season while potentially being in the situation of letting the goalkeeper leave Old Trafford on a free transfer next summer.

And it seems the saga was too much to take for Carragher after the footballer-turned-pundit poked fun at United on social media.

Carragher tweeted on Tuesday: "I'm happy DDG is staying his head won't be right, he'll go for free next summer & Man Utd haven't got 20 mil to panic with today."
