Jamie Carragher expects Tottenham to be "right in there" challenging for the Premier League title this season.

Mauricio Pochettino's side have made an impressive start to the current campaign and are the only team in England's top tier with an unbeaten record after seven games.

Spurs swatted Manchester City aside last time out, cutting Pep Guardiola's lead at the top of the table to just one point.

The north Londoners have not lifted the title since 1961 but Carragher has backed Pochettino's men to challenge for a historic piece of silverware, despite pre-season predictions suggesting they would not last the course.

"On the back of last season - going very close to the title - maybe people thought Spurs would drop off this season.

"But no - they look like they'll be right in there again challenging for the title.

"There's weaknesses in every team - no matter how good a side is there's something you can do to hurt them.

"Pochettino and Spurs saw that. Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say 'that's a fantastic performance,'" Carragher said of Tottenham's victory over Manchester City.

Spurs face West Brom following the conclusion of the international break and could climb to the top of the table with a victory - if City fail to beat Ronald Koeman's Everton.
