Timing, they say, isn't always perfect. Less than 24 hours after their World Cup fate was confirmed, England took to the training field, for a media open day.

Roy Hodgson put his players through their paces on Saturday, in the knowledge that whatever result they achieve against Costa Rica next week, the Three Lions will be heading home from the World Cup with a wimper.

Defeat to Uruguay, coupled with Costa Rica's triumph over Italy, sealed their fate, and England are left with only their pride to fight for in Belo Horizonte come Tuesday night.
