Hugo Lloris urges Tottenham teammates to share goalscoring burden with Harry Kane this season

Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris has urged his teammates to share the goalscoring burden with Harry Kane this season.

Kane won the Golden Boot as Spurs finished third last term, courtesy of a 25-goal haul, but appeared to struggle with tiredness during the latter stages of the campaign.

Mauricio Pochettino has addressed such an issue this summer by bringing in Vincent Janssen from AZ Alkmaar, meaning Kane is no longer the club's only senior centre forward.

Spurs will be aiming to launch a second successive title challenge when they face Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon and Lloris is adamant two draws against the Toffees last season prove why other members of the side need to score regularly.

“We were so unlucky because we were better than them," Lloris told the club's official website. "Home and away we played good football, we created a lot but didn’t score.

"That’s where we need to improve. We can’t put all the pressure on the strikers. It’s true Harry Kane has scored a lot of goals but we need to score more as a team.

"Both matches against Everton last season were a perfect example. We created a lot but weren’t clinical enough.

"We need to have more lucidity in the final 20 yards, the last pass, the shot. That’s an area we need to improve," Lloris added.

Kane is expected to remain as first choice - despite Janssen's arrival - and is set to lead the line against Ronald Koeman's men, having returned to training 'hungry' for success after England's disappointing Euro 2016 campaign.

The 23-year-old failed to score in France but Lloris has defended Kane and backed his teammate to put the Three Lions to one side and focus on Spurs.

“If you want to be positive, you can be positive. For most of the English players, especially the Tottenham players, it was their first experience at that level and most of our players did well.

"What is happening at the national team is happening with the national team and what is happening at Tottenham is happening at Tottenham," said the goalkeeper.
