Harry Kane was among the Tottenham players to reveal their delight at the club's Champions League draw after being pitted against CSKA Moscow, Bayer Leverkusen and AS Monaco in this season's group stages.

Mauricio Pochettino's side confirmed their place in the competition by virtue of a third place Premier League finish and will now rub shoulders with Europe's elite.

This season is only the second time Spurs have competed in the tournament in their history, having reached the quarter-finals stage back in 2011.

The north Londoners will be hopeful they can progress to the latter stages of the tournament and are set to be cheered on by crowds of up to 90,000 after agreeing a deal to play their European home games at Wembley.

Kane shared his delight at the Group E draw on Twitter, writing "Can't wait!" after Spurs' group was announced.

Toby Alderweireld went with a simpler response, tweeting: "Group E. #COYS".

Mousa Dembele was asked by the club about the draw via WhatsApp, and will be relieved to have avoided a winter trip to Russia as Spurs will face CSKA in Moscow in September.

Spurs' double-winning winger Cliff Jones reacted favourably to the draw, and said the club has some "great wembley evenings" to look forward to this season.

Plenty of Spurs fans were also confident of progress to the knockout stages of the competition following the draw, suggesting that Pochettino's men should be favourites to top the group.
