Greeks ready for ‘cup final’

8 June 2012

Greece captain Giorgos Karagounis says his side must treat tonight’s opening Euro 2012 clash in Warsaw like a cup final.

The Greeks opened their 2004 triumph by beating hosts Portugal and they will be looking for a repeat at the National Stadium against Poland.

“In such a tournament every game is a final, let alone the opening match of the group,” said Karagounis (above), whose side have lost just one of 21 games under coach Fernando Santos and were unbeaten during qualifying.

“It’s a proper final. Since there are so few games to play in the tournament, no mistakes are allowed.”
