Fulham's Dan Burn insists Conference football remark at Manchester United was a joke

Fulham centre-back Dan Burn has played down comments he made about facing a barrage of crosses during his side's 2-2 draw at Manchester United.

United knocked an incredible 81 crosses into the Fulham box - and scored from none of them as Darren Bent struck deep in stoppage-time to clinch a 2-2 draw for the Premier League's bottom team.

Six foot seven inch Burn cleared the ball on 22 occasions and later likened the match to his time spent playing in the Conference.

“I didn’t mean that quote to sound as disrespectful as it’s been reported," Burn told the club's official website.

"There were a lot of crosses, statistically more than any game since stats started, so I just joked that I hadn’t headed as many balls since the Conference.

“It was a deluge of pressure, and I was just glad I could get on the end of some of them and we were all relieved to get a point. United have world class players, and we’re up against more world class players, and arguably the best striker in the league, on Wednesday night.”

Wednesday night sees Fulham host Liverpool, with the Reds fresh from their 5-1 thrashing of Arsenal.

“Liverpool are flying at the moment and that victory against Arsenal on Saturday was immense for them. But the point at Old Trafford felt like a win to us," Burn said.

“Having held the lead for so long under constant pressure and then to lose two goals in quick succession was a real blow. I thought we showed great character to come back and getting a point, like I said, felt like a win.”
