Football League focus: Ardley's sticking point

Neal Ardley is confident he will turn AFC Wimbledon’s fortunes around but is warning fans not to expect any significant improvements for tomorrow’s trip to Fleetwood Town.

Ardley (above) replaced Terry Brown last week but lost his opening match 2-1 to Cheltenham, leaving The Dons a couple of points above the League Two relegation zone.

He said: “We have to get that ball rolling and if we can start turning in performances then results will follow. I hope the fans will stick with us during this time, I’ve always said that nothing will change dramatically in one week. If we get the winning habit that will breed confidence.”

Jackson back to face Tykes

Charlton captain Johnnie Jackson has recovered from a hamstring injury and is available for tomorrow’s visit of Barnsley.

The former Tottenham midfielder has been out for three weeks but is back in full training and manager Chris Powell has been given the green light to include him in his squad.

On-loan Manchester City midfielder Abdul Razak is also in contention after returning safely from last week’s abandoned Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Senegal and Ivory Coast.

Charlton, who are 15th in the Championship, have recorded just one win from their five games at the Valley this season.

Warnock’s in a Premier show

Neil Warnock believes tonight’s Yorkshire derby between Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday would not be out of place in the Premier League.

The biggest Championship crowd of the season is expected at Hillsborough and Warnock said today: “To have the best part of 30,000 fans there for a Friday night game that is being shown live on television, shows what potential there is at both clubs. This could easily be a Premier League fixture.”

Wednesday boss Dave Jones added: “It will start off 100 miles an hour, with the buzz of the crowd and the atmosphere. We haven’t got to be frightened because this is the sort of game you strive for in football.”
