Fenerbahce manager Aykut Kocaman has admitted that his side’s hopes of acquiring Diego Costa from Chelsea are fading.
As Standard Sport reported this morning the Turkish giants had been hoping to bring Chelsea’s AWOL striker to Istanbul on loan until January.
Costa has seemingly burned his bridges at Stamford Bridge, having refused to return to training at Chelsea, and needs to find a new home until at least January, when Atletico Madrid are expected to renew their interest after the conclusion of their transfer ban.
Turkey represents one of his few remaining destinations as the Super Lig transfer window does not close until Friday. However Fenerbahce believe that they are set to miss out on the Spain international.
“We were really close to sign Diego Costa but now we seem far away,” Kocaman said.
Costa, who received a text from manager Antonio Conte earlier in the summer telling him he was not needed this season, has consistently made clear his desire to return to Atletico despite interest from clubs in Italy and France and the fact that he would be unable to play for the Madrid side for the first half of the season due to their Fifa-imposed transfer embargo.
However a £41m move collapsed last week, leaving Costa with limited options if he wishes to play football before January.
