Eric Dier has signed a new contract at Tottenham that will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2020.

The 21-year-old joined Spurs from Sporting Lisbon for a fee of £4m last summer and initially agreed a five-year deal with the north London club.

However, his impressive performances in his debut Premier League season has led to a lengthy extension to suggest he features heavily in Mauricio Pochettino's future plans.

Dier made 28 top-flight appearances last season and featured in a variety of positions, including centre back and right back.

He has proved his versatility even further this season after being deployed in a central midfield role by Pochettino in Spurs' opening four fixtures.

Although the England Under-21 international initially struggled to adapt, he has performed well in recent fixtures and could now provide competition for Nabil Bentaleb and Ryan Mason throughout the season.
