Roy Hodgson gave Jordan Henderson a chance to prove his World Cup credentials by selecting the midfielder for England's farewell friendly against Peru at Wembley.

Henderson has enjoyed a stellar domestic season alongside Steven Gerrard for Liverpool and now the pair will have a chance to show they can perform together for England.

Hodgson named a strong-looking XI for England's match against the South Americans, who are ranked 42nd in the world.

The England manager gave Adam Lallana his fourth cap in an attacking line of three that also included Manchester United duo Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck.

Those three were expected to operate just behind lone striker Daniel Sturridge, who won his 11th cap.

As expected, Hodgson selected his first-choice back four of Glen Johnson, Gary Cahill, Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines.

Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart earned his 40th cap in goal.

The match is England's last on home soil before they depart for Miami, where they face Ecuador and Honduras.

England will then fly to Brazil where they kick off their World Cup campaign against Italy on June 14 in Manaus.

England team: Hart, Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines,
Gerrard, Henderson, Lallana, Welbeck, Rooney, Sturridge.
