Eduardo joins Shakhtar with Slaven Bilic’s blessing

Moving on: Eduardo is going to the Ukrainian league
11 April 2012

Arsenal striker Eduardo has agreed a £6million move to Shakhtar Donetsk after being assured by Croatia boss Slaven Bilic his international future would be unaffected.

The 27-year-old has struggled to get his career back on track following his horrific leg break against Birmingham in 2008 and has made just one appearance for his country since.

Boss Arsene Wenger told Eduardo he would not be a first-team regular this season and the striker had a medical at Arsenal yesterday under the supervision of Shakhtar's doctors.

But before agreeing to a £2m-a-year contract, Eduardo sought advice from Bilic on whether the Ukrainian league was good enough to display his international credentials.

"I spoke with Eduardo," said Bilic. "He was very pleased with the move to Shakhtar. He is going to a strong league — this is excellent for the national team."

Meanwhile, Robin van Persie will wear the No10 shirt this season, taking over from William Gallas, whose contract expired last month. Carlos Vela will wear No11.
