Daniel Sturridge is up for crunch run despite injury

Daniel Sturridge is determined to play through the pain barrier to help ensure Chelsea's season doesn't fall apart this month.

Sturridge is still in agony after limping off during England's friendly against Holland on Wednesday night with a toe injury.

Chelsea play at West Brom tomorrow which is the first of seven games in 28 days that will have a huge bearing on the campaign.

They face Birmingham in an FA Cup Fifth Round replay and Napoli in the second leg of their last 16 tie, on top of crucial League matches in the race to finish in the top four.

But Sturridge, who is Chelsea's second top scorer with 11 goals this season, aims to make himself available for beleaguered boss Andre Villas-Boas.

He said: "The injury is not too bad, it's just a bruise under the nail. We took a lot of the blood out of it yesterday and hope that it will now settle down. I will give training a try today and see how it is, hopefully I will be fine for the weekend.

"It's one of those things where you have to try and get back as quick as possible and go through the pain barrier a little. I'm going to try and do that.

"For me I love the fact the games are now coming thick and fast. You do feel it in your legs a little bit, but I love playing competitive matches so for me the more games the better.

"It's always a challenge for everyone to keep fit during a period like this because your body goes through the limit.

"Even those that aren't playing so regularly are pushing themselves hard in training so it works out that everyone's body is under more stress."

Standard Sport revealed earlier this month that the 22-year-old is happy at Stamford Bridge amid speculation he was looking for a move elsewhere.

Chelsea plan to give Sturridge, who has two years left on his contract, a new deal at some point, but the striker insists he is no rush.

He confirmed: "I love playing for Chelsea. I've not spoken to the club to ask for a new contract or told them I'm unhappy. I'm just doing a job, working hard."

Chelsea will be without captain John Terry (knee), while Jose Bosingwa is still struggling with a hamstring problem.
