Daniel Levy faces balancing act to keep Tottenham progressing despite title hopes, warns Danny Murphy

Danny Murphy13 January 2017

Tottenham's performance against Chelsea was as strong, powerful and well-organised as any I’ve seen this season.

If they can keep that starting XI fit, they will be there or thereabouts in the title race.

What does the future hold for them, though? There will undoubtedly be interest from Europe’s top clubs in their best players.

No two cases are the same, but I don’t see Dele Alli leaving Spurs in the short term. At 20, he is still very young and at an early stage in his development.

He appreciates Tottenham for the chance they have given him and appreciates his manager, Mauricio Pochettino, for helping him become the player he is.

If Alli keeps progressing at this rate then top clubs will eventually want him, no doubt about that.

So can Spurs bring the wage structure to a level where they keep those players who want to win trophies and earn more money?

Alternatively, what happens if they sign a high-class player and pay him £150,000-200,000 per week? Isco, for example, from Real Madrid?

It will show Tottenham’s players they mean business, but you can be certain the agents of those players will be demanding similar wages.

It is a very difficult balancing act for chairman Daniel Levy.
