Andros Townsend says Crystal Palace are full of confidence at home after the club went six games without defeat at Selhurst Park in the Premier League

Under Roy Hodgson the Eagles have become away day specialists, claiming scalps at Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United during his tenure, though home form wavered significantly last season when they won just five games from 19 at Selhurst Park.

They may not have the attacking flair of the big six, or even most of their mid-table rivals, but they are once again becoming a force to reckon with thanks to impressive form at the back, conceding just one goal at home so far this season - the 95th minute equaliser to Wolves just over a week ago.

After Luka Milivojevic, marking his 100th Palace appearance, put the hosts ahead with his 21st minute spot-kick on Saturday, fears of another late equaliser made for a tense atmosphere in the late stages at Selhurst Park.

However, Andros Townsend settled the nerves with his first goal of the season in injury time, teed up by Wilfried Zaha.

"I think we are always confident at home," Townsend told Standard Sport of their changing fortunes. "Stats in the past they may have shown a different thing but every time we are at home we know how good these fans are, we're confident every time we step on the field.

"We know Selhurst Park is not an easy place to come, even if we have lost games in the past it has definitely not been a walkover, we have always made it difficult.

"It is always nice to know you're on an unbeaten run, but it doesn't change the confidence we feel when we step out at Selhurst."

Townsend has endured a mixed start to the season. Starts against Everton and Sheffield United brought a disappointing draw and humbling defeat before he was dropped to the bench for wins over Manchester United and Aston Villa, the winger's only other start coming at Tottenham in a 4-0 defeat.

The England international has had to watch from the sidelines as Crystal Palace struggled to find the back of the net but hopes to kick on having opened his account for the season.

"Yes [it is frustrating] but, I started the first two games and we scored no goals so as an attacking player you can't have any arguments when the manager does rotate," he said. "You just have to be ready for your next opportunity.

"I got 25 minutes on Saturday and scored a goal so hopefully I can build from there and get a couple more in the coming games."
