Crystal Palace have signed 35-year-old Brazilian Diego Cavalieri on a free transfer to solve the goalkeeper crisis at Selhurst Park.

Cavalieri has signed a short-term deal at Selhurst Park until the end of the season and will provide back-up for Wayne Hennessey.

Roy Hodgson has been desperate to bring in another goalkeeper with Julian Speroni facing two months out with a knee injury.

Palace have an agreement to sign Vicente Guaita from Getafe in the summer but Hodgson was concerned about the lack of options for the relegation run-in.

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Cavalieri was a free agent after he left Fluminense. He has three caps for Brazil, spent two years at Liverpool between 2008-2010 and played under Hodgson during his time at Anfield.

Palace can sign a free agent outside the transfer window and have space left in their 25-man Premier League squad to register a new player.
