Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has revealed the imminent signing of Christian Benteke has given everyone at the club a timely boost.

Benteke is in London to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms, but a £27m fee plus £5m in add-ons, has been agreed with Liverpool.

Palace lost their opening match at home to West Brom last week and some fans turned on Pardew after the final whistle.

Since then, the Eagles sold captain Mile Jedinak and winger Yannick Bolasie to Aston Villa and Everton respectively.

But Pardew said: "Signing Benteke will give everyone a lift. We know that at the top of the pitch we are a little bit shy at the moment, but I can see already there is a spring in people's steps.

"He is someone I know very well - I wanted to take him to Newcastle when I was there. He got the move to Liverpool (last year) but it didn't quite work out.

"We need to get him back to his best. But with his style of play and the way he feeds off crosses, plus the wide players we have, he's going to enjoy it."

Pardew admitted he agreed to sell Jedinak as he wasn't going to be a first team regular, but tried everything he could to keep Bolasie only for the winger to make it clear he wanted the £25m switch to Everton.

He added: "It's important when you have lost iconic players to replace them with iconic players, something that didn't happen (for me) at Newcastle unfortunately.

"We lost two this week in Jedinak and Bolasie and I'm pleased that the board have been brave with this (Benteke) move and I thank them that we got it this far.

"It's important for our fans. After the last game against West Brom they were disappointed, but they have to understand.

"I had a fan saying 'more of the same Alan' as I walked off the pitch. But it won't be more of the same, that's why we're making changes.

"The second half of last season wasn't good enough and I have changed various things at the football club. I'm trying to take this club to where our home form is better, where results are more consistent and our performances."

Pardew has confirmed that Yohan Cabaye, Jordan Mutch, James McArthur and James Tomkins could all feature at Tottenham tomorrow having improved their match fitness.
