Frank Lampard hopes Antonio Rudiger will be fit to begin Chelsea's Champions League campaign on Tuesday after hurting his groin in the win over Wolves.

Rudiger, making his first start of the season after recovering from a knee injury, played 45 minutes as Chelsea beat Nuno Espirito Santo's side 5-2 at Molineux.

The Blues had looked to be on their way to a first clean sheet of the season at the break, but Rudiger suffered a groin problem, exacerbated when he tripped on some metal between the dugouts on his way off. He was replaced by Kurt Zouma at the break.

Valencia visit Stamford Bridge on Wednesday as Chelsea begin their group stage campaign in the Champions League, and Lampard is hopeful Rudiger will be fit.

"He’s had a groin issue which he bothered as he came off the pitch near me actually, Lampard said. "He slipped on some metal which made him adjust himself so he has bothered his groin.

"Hopefully not too bad. It was more than a precaution because he did feel some pain so we’ll assess it over the next couple of days," Lampard said.

"It was just before half-time, where the ball was bouncing and he came off the pitch, unfortunately he bothered it then.

"[He's] hopefully OK for Champions League."
