Jose Mourinho bemoaned referee Mike Jones' decision not to award Chelsea a penalty in their defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday evening.

With the score level at 0-0 in the second period, Diego Costa raced to the byline and pulled the ball back across goal but Simon Francis partially blocked the centre with his trailing arm as he attempted a last-ditch block.

And the decision proved pivotal to the outcome of the games as Bournemouth sparked a rare counter-attack in the final 10 minutes. With Thibaut Courtois stranded, a deep corner was sent back across goal by Steve Cook for Glenn Murray to seal a famous win.

"We didn't deserve to lose," said Mourinho. "Our opponent - in the period that they thought only of defence - managed to get a goal and there was a clear mistake from the referee.

"I think it is a clear handball and penalty with the score at 0-0. In the first half we were not aggressive enough, in the second half we arrived in dangerous positions a lot of time with a lot of crosses from the right hand side from Ivanovic."

Mourinho also felt Bournemouth were guilty of time-wasting as the game meandered towards a goalless conclusion.

Indeed, Chelsea were largely dominant in the second period and a point would have been a success in itself for Eddie Howe's side.

The Blues boss added: "They played in a way that some call intelligent, some say is not fair play. They were taking time, calling for the medical department and drinking water like it is basketball time out."
