Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has hinted of a new adventure, with a proposed move to Everton growing stronger by the minute.

The Belgian striker, who has been training with former club Anderlecht after his World Cup exploits, is expected to sign for Roberto Martinez' side on a permanent basis having spent a successful loan spell with them last season.

And on Wednesday, the striker tweeted a photo of himself from a plane, with the message: "Time to write a new chapter..."

Lukaku, who was signed by Chelsea back in 2011, has endured a distant and somewhat fractious relationship with manager Jose Mourinho, since the Portuguese coach returned to the club last summer.

Having admitted that his long term future was in doubt due to a lack of playing, Mourinho hit back at the Belgian insisting he would decide whether he would stay or be sold.

"Romelu likes to speak," Mourinho told reporters last November. "He's a young boy who likes to speak. But the only thing he didn't say is why he went to Everton on loan."

"Maybe there is a new rule in football where when the season finishes every player is able to decide their own future."

Their relationship has shown no signs of recovery, and with Chelsea having signed Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid, as well as re-signing club legend Didier Drogba, chances for Lukaku at Chelsea seem as bleak as ever.

With Martinez having reportedly told a fan "of course, of course we'll get him", before later playing down his comments.

But Everton's head of recruitment, Ian Atkins, admitted that he expects Lukaku to return to Goodison Park this summer.

“Hopefully things can be sorted out," he told TalkSPORT. "I think he’s quite settled in his mind that he wants to come to Everton, and hopefully he’ll be pulling on our blue shirt again next term.

“Our loan signings all did brilliant for us last season. Gareth Barry has signed permanently now which is fantastic, and hopefully Lukaku will as well.

“I know the manager would like back him at Everton and I’m sure if he comes he’ll be a great asset and can help us get to that next level of European football.”
