Alvaro Morata says he is ready to succeed as Chelsea's new number 9 after watching the likes of Didier Drogba, Fernando Torres and Andriy Shevchenko as a child.
Morata joined Chelsea from Real Madrid for an initial £58million on Friday, with the Spain international - formerly a Manchester United target - confirmed as the Blues latest No.9 on Monday.
The shirt has been worn by the likes of Peter Osgood and Kerry Dixon to brilliant effect, but plenty of forwards to have donned the shirt have failed to live up to expectations.
Torres, Radamel Falcao, Mateja Kezman, Franci di Santo, and Hernan Crespo are among the strikers to have struggled in the famous jersey, while Khalid Boulahrouz and Steve Sidwell are just two of its stranger occupants in recent history.
But Morata insists he is ready to impress his new fans at Stamford Bridge, telling Chelsea's official website: "When I was little I watched with my dad and it is incredible, a lot of goals and fast matches and I really want to play here.
"When I was little I saw Didier Drogba, Andriy Shevchenko, Fernando Torres and thought probably in a few years I will take this place, and now it is the dream to take the Chelsea number 9 shirt.
"I can’t wait to play at Stamford Bridge and in the Premier League."
Morata also added that while he may not be in peak condition to make a potential Chelsea debut in the International Champions Cup against Bayern Munich, adrenaline will take over if he is called upon by Conte.
"I am in good condition," he said. "I have made a long travel and am a little bit tired, but when I put the shirt on it doesn’t matter.
"I want to play and I want to score and I want to give everything on the pitch."
