Chelsea Ladies have made club history by reaching their first-ever Champions League semi-finals.

The west Londoners achieved the feat on Wednesday night by beating French side Montpellier 3-1 in their quarter-final second leg clash at Kingsmeadow to win the tie 5-1 on aggregate.

And the hosts got off to the perfect start in the second leg as Fran Kirby latched onto a misplaced pass and coolly opened the scoring with her left-footed shot in just the fourth minute.

Montpellier hit back with Sofia Jakobsson's goal in the 36th minute but Ramona Bachmann scored to extend Chelsea's advantage four minutes into the second half.

Kirby was the creator of the goal after delivering a superb through-ball that Bachmann curled into the back of the net with her right foot.

And with a record attendance of 3,050 people watching on, Kirby then dispatched a second-half penalty to seal the win that takes Chelsea Ladies into their first Champions League semi-finals where they will play Wolfsburg while Manchester City host Lyon.
