Chelsea flop Radamel Falcao could be given shot at redemption on return to Monaco

Striking woes: Falcao has endured two seasons to forget in the English game

Radamel Falcao may be given an opportunity to redeem himself at Europe’s highest level next season at his parent club Monaco.

The 30-year-old, signed by the Ligue 1 side in 2013 for a fee believed to be £51million, has spent the past two seasons on loan at Manchester United and Chelsea.

A severe anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in January 2014 has seemingly robbed El Tigre, the most feared striker in Europe when he played at Atletico Madrid, of much of his power.

That has been reflected in his goal output in the Premier League, where 35 appearances over two seasons have brought just five goals, as many as the striker scored in one game for Atleti against Deportivo La Coruna in 2012.

Despite wages estimated by to be in the region of £300,000 per week and a recent history of injuries Monaco will consider giving Falcao a chance to prove himself once more when his Chelsea loan expires at the end of the season.

“We thought about bringing him back in January, but he was injured,” vice-president Vadim Vasilyev told RMC.

“We’ll see what happens at the end of the season. We won’t exclude the possibility of him coming back to the club in the summer.”

Jose Mourinho had hoped to be the one to turn around the Colombian striker’s fortunes in a second season in the English game, but Falcao has arguably endured a more frustrating campaign at Chelsea than he did with United. He has not made an appearance since October after being sidelined with a thigh injury and has just one goal to his name.

Falcao has drawn interest from Chinese side Jiangsu Suning, who paid £21million for Chelsea squad player Ramires, however with the Super League transfer window set to close on Friday February 26 any move in the coming days seems unlikely.
