Kai Havertz insists Chelsea must resolve their goal-scoring issues as they prepare for Wednesday's Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid.

Thomas Tuchel's side lead the last-16 tie 1-0 after the first leg, but Saturday's goalless draw with Leeds underlined their problems up front.

Havertz squandered chances at Elland Road and admits he has struggled since his £71million move from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.

But the German is refusing to make any excuses and says it is up to Chelsea to find their scoring touch.

"We don't score enough goals," said Havertz. "We get good chances, but we are not clinical enough in front of the goal.

"We had good chances at Leeds. I had two chances myself. It's not easy to score in this League, but we have to keep on going to keep on creating chances and, hopefully, in the next few games some more goals will come for us.

"We have to keep our heads up because the next game is Wednesday and it is very important."

Tuchel is now charged with the responsibility of getting the best out of Havertz after his disappointing start at Chelsea, which contributed to Frank Lampard's sacking in January.

There have been clear improvements in recent weeks, with the Germany star handed a central role in attack. But he admits he must do better.

"I have to improve my game," he said. "It has not been easy for me, but there are no excuses. I just have to keep on working and, hopefully, there will be a big turnaround soon. I will give it my best."
