Charlton manager Guy Luzon is determined to build on last weekend’s morale-boosting win against high-flying Brentford.

The Israeli, who replaced Bob Peeters in January, picked up just two points from his first four games and the club had gone 13 matches without a win prior to Saturday’s victory at The Valley.

Luzon, whose side face Wigan tonight in a bottom-of-the-Championship clash at the DW Stadium, said: “Of course the atmosphere is better after the Brentford result. To keep that atmosphere it is important to maintain the quality we showed last week. Wigan are one of the teams [battling] with us against relegation so it is an important game.

“We need to move the ball well, like we did against Brentford. Our first target is to keep a clean sheet because, if we can, I am sure we have enough quality to win the game.”

Luzon is enjoying his first taste of English football despite Charlton’s precarious position, adding: “We have fantastic people around the club and good players. Of course, I have spoken to the owner but our conversation will remain between us.”

The 39-year-old Israeli has explained why he adopts an Andre Villas-Boas style crouching position on the sidelines. “I can see the game well from there when I am like that,” he claimed. “Since I started as a coach 15 years ago I have liked that position. It is not superstition but I can see a lot of the game.”

Former Manchester United player Chris Eagles could make his debut for Charlton tonight after signing until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old winger was a free agent after his short-term deal with cash-crippled Blackpool expired last month.

Roger Johnson is fit to face Wigan despite breaking a rib against Brentford.

Former West Ham midfielder Alou Diarra is on trial at Charlton and could sign next week if he impresses.

Luzon is in the market for a central midfielder after Johnnie Jackson was ruled out for a month with a leg injury.
