Watch out Arsenal! Lionel Messi scores 300 La Liga goals for Barcelona

Lionel Messi just keeps getting better and better

Arsenal fans hoping that Barcelona star Lionel Messi may suddenly experience a dip in form ahead of the sides' upcoming Champions League clash next week may want to look away now.

The Barca star broke yet another record by taking his La Liga goals tally to 301 with a brace in a 3-1 win at Sporting Gijon to go six points clear at the top of the table on Wednesday.

The Argentina captain is the first player to ever break the 300 barrier, and if his cheeky penalty assist against Celta Vigo at the weekend was anything to go by, Arsenal may be in store for a special performance.

Messi displayed his outrageous skills in the buildup to the game against Sporting with an audacious strike from behind the goal in training, and the forward's latest exploits will have Arsene Wenger and his squad fearing the worst.

Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez missed a second-half penalty against Sporting, but made amends soon after by scoring the third goal to take his tally in all competitions to 40 this season.

The match at El Molinon was originally due to be played in December but had to be switched because of Barca's involvement in the Club World Cup in Japan.

Barca now have 60 points from 24 matches, six more than second-placed Atletico Madrid and seven ahead of Real Madrid.
