Brighton 0-2 Tottenham: Cristian Romero and Harry Kane get Spurs back on track

As is becoming all too customary, Tottenham followed up a disappointing loss with a win away at Brighton on Wednesday evening.

Harry Kane could well have opened the scoring only minutes in after pressing Robert Sanchez into a mistake when trying to play out from the back, although the England captain fired wide at an open goal from a tight angle.

Spurs had largely started well, recycling possession patiently and denying the home side a shot on target during the opening forty-five minutes.

A fortunate Cristian Romero goal after the Argentine’s boot happened to stand between Dejan Kulusevski’s strike from just inside the box and Sanchez saw Spurs make a breakthrough just before the interval.

After the break, Brighton attacked with more urgency, although it was that ploy to eventually cost them.

Graham Potter’s side will rightly feel aggrieved Romero was not penalised for a handball after a scramble in the box following a corner, from which Spurs launched their second.

Rodrigo Bentancur, Spurs’ most progressive passer all night, freed Kane with a delicious ball from just inside his half, with the England captain racing through and finishing clinically in a similar fashion to his first at home to Everton earlier this month.

A balanced and professional performance from Spurs. More of that will be needed.
