Brentford boss Uwe Rosler is pinning his penalty taker to the wall

Uwe Rosler hopes to avoid another Brentford spot-kick farce against Swindon tomorrow by putting a sheet up in the dressing room naming the penalty taker so all the players get the message.

The manager has decided to act as the fallout from last Saturday’s embarrassing mix-up against Doncaster continued.

Rosler claims Marcelo Trotta went against his orders when he took the ball away from Kevin O’Connor before crashing an injury-time spot-kick against the bar.

But Clayton Donaldson, who tried to end confusion surrounding the penalty by talking to both players, says there were no clear instructions from the bench.

“I knew Marcelo and Kevin were practising the day before,” he said. “So I went to see who the penalty taker was but they were both saying they were on the penalties.

“I did not know who the penalty taker was. It was very confusing. I do not think the manager made it clear who the penalty taker was before the game. It was a good thing that a few of us wanted to take it but I do not think it looked good when quite a few people were fighting to take a penalty.

“I think the manager has learned from that and has said he will put a sheet up now to say who the penalty taker is in future games. That will definitely stop the arguing before the game and during the game.”

Rosler says everyone is aware of who he wants on penalty duty during the play-offs and Donaldson insists there is no issue with on-loan Fulham striker Trotta.

Ahead of tomorrow’s semi-final first leg against Swindon, Donaldson said: “A few of the lads rang him up to tell him to forget about it and he has responded well this week.

“The manager has spoken to him and he has been his normal bubbly self in training. We had the Player of the Year awards on Sunday and that was a good thing because it showed the unity is still there and we are not blaming anyone.

“It was big blow for all of us but we have got a lifeline in getting through the play-offs. We had a meeting on Monday for everyone to get over Saturday. It has happened and we have got a good chance to put things right.”

Tony Craig is suspended tomorrow but will return for the second leg at Griffin Park on Monday. Paul Hayes, who spent the final month of the season on loan at Crawley, has returned to the club and is available for the play-offs.
